Assam down town University proudly hosted a one-day State-level workshop on the National Digital Library of India (NDLI) and the NDLI Club on July 21, in collaboration with the NDLI team from IIT Kharagpur. The event was organized by the Hari Narayan Dutta Baruah Central Library of the university and witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 250 teachers, librarians, and students across Northeast India.
The workshop began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Dr. N. N. Dutta, Chancellor, Prof. Bandana Dutta, Dean of Studies, Assam down town University, followed by a welcome address by Vice Chancellor Dr. N. C. Talukdar. The Chief Guest, Dr Samudra Gupta Kashyap, Chancellor of Nagaland University, highlighted the importance of preserving indigenous knowledge in the digital era, drawing references from the traditional institutions like the satra. Dr. B Sutradhar, Joint Principal Investigator of NDLI, presented a comprehensive overview of NDLI’s role in democratizing access to educational resources.
Insights were also shared by Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Pranveer Singh PhD (IITK) FIE FSED Disruptive Education and Learning Innovator and Prof. Sanjay Kumar Singh, focusing on knowledge exchange and the ongoing digital transformation in education. The technical session featured impactful talks by Dr. Prasanta Kumar Deka and Mr. Sobhan Nath, along with an engaging quiz led by Dr. Sutradhar. Dr. Rubi Goswami, lead convenor of the event, shared plans of expanding such workshops nationally in the future.
The day’s events, including the valedictory ceremony, were seamlessly anchored by Dr. Santosh Kumar Upadhyay and Dr. Dimpi Das Pathak, ensuring a well-coordinated and insightful experience for all attendees. The workshop marked a vital step toward fostering awareness and active engagement with digital learning platforms across the region.
