The M.A. Economics programme offers a 2 years comprehensive and application-oriented understanding of economics through a balanced combination of theoretical foundations, quantitative & qualitative methods, research training and specialized areas of economic inquiry. The four-semester curriculum progresses from core concepts in microeconomics, macroeconomics, Indian economy and development to advanced statistical, econometric and policy-oriented applications. Students engage with contemporary fields including behavioural, urban and regional, health and education, labour, agricultural, industrial, population and environmental economics, along with Economics of North-East India. Internship and research project components provide opportunities for experiential and independent learning, while professional and placement-oriented courses strengthen career readiness. The programme follows a structured progression, beginning with foundational economic theories and core concepts in the first two semesters and advancing towards specialized areas, experiential internship, and independent research in the third and fourth semester.

Conceptual and Analytical Approach - To develop graduates with a strong conceptual and analytical foundation in economic theory and its applications to contemporary economic, social and policy issues.
Research Based - To equip graduates with quantitative, statistical, econometric and research skills necessary for analysing economic data and undertaking evidence-based research.
Inter-Disciplinary and Multidisciplinary Methods - To prepare graduates to apply economic reasoning to real-world challenges in areas such as development, public policy, environment, labour, agriculture, health, education, industry and regional economies along with a multidisciplinary approach.
Employability, Workforce Preparation & Job Readiness To foster professional competence, ethical responsibility, effective communication, leadership, teamwork and lifelong learning for successful careers in academia, research, government, industry, development and other economic sectors.

Economic Knowledge: Demonstrate advanced knowledge and understanding of fundamental and contemporary concepts, theories and principles of economics.
Economic Analysis: Apply microeconomic, macroeconomic and development perspectives to analyse complex economic problems and policy issues.
Quantitative Competence: Apply statistical, mathematical and econometric tools to interpret economic data, establish relationships and support evidence-based decision-making.
Research Capability: Formulate research questions, review relevant literature, select appropriate methodologies, analyse data and undertake independent economic research.
Policy Analysis: Evaluate economic policies and programmes with reference to efficiency, equity, sustainability and their implications for different sections of society.
Applied and Interdisciplinary Understanding: Apply economic reasoning to contemporary issues across areas including environment, health, education, labour, agriculture, industry, population, urban and regional development, and North-East India.
Communication and Professional Skills: Effectively communicate economic arguments, research findings and policy recommendations through written, oral and presentation-based formats.
Problem-Solving and Decision-Making: Demonstrate analytical reasoning, critical thinking and decision-making abilities in addressing economic and professional challenges.
Professional and Social Responsibility: Demonstrate leadership, teamwork, ethical conduct, adaptability and a commitment to socially relevant and sustainable economic development.

Advanced Economic and Policy Analysis: Analyse contemporary economic issues using advanced theoretical frameworks and apply economic reasoning to public policy, development, environmental and regional concerns.
Research and Data Analytics: Independently apply statistical, econometric and research methodologies to collect, analyse and interpret economic data and produce evidence-based research outcomes.
Specialised and Applied Economics: Demonstrate specialized knowledge in selected areas of economics and apply it to real-world contexts, including behavioural, labour, agricultural, health and education, urban and regional, industrial, population and North-East Indian economies, while demonstrating readiness for higher studies and professional careers.

CST- Common scholarship test is a national and international level online MCQ based examination funded for intellectual empowerment by Assam down town University.

CST- Maximum enrolment each year is 269 seats and any 10+2 students can apply. Adtu is northeast India’s first placement driven university to provide 100% scholarship benefits worth 35 cr.

CST aims to inspire brilliant and competent students to pursue further education. Accredited with a prestigious grade by NAAC, UGC and AICTE.
