The Master of Arts in Political Science (MAPS) at Assam down town University (AdtU) is a two-year postgraduate programme designed to provide students with a comprehensive and critical understanding of political thought, institutions, processes, governance and contemporary political developments. The programme comprises four semesters and adopts a multidisciplinary, learner-centred and research-oriented approach to political education. The programme offers an in-depth study of Classical and Contemporary Political Theory, International Relations, Indian Government and Politics, Political Sociology, Social Movements, Public Policy, Governance, Human Rights, Foreign Policy, Development and contemporary political issues. It encourages students to understand political phenomena through theoretical, empirical, comparative and interdisciplinary perspectives. Special emphasis is placed on developing critical thinking, analytical reasoning, research aptitude and academic communication skills. Through seminars, presentations, discussions, field-based activities, projects and research-oriented assignments, students are encouraged to connect classroom learning with real-world political and social issues. The programme also provides scope to examine the political and socio-economic realities of North-East India, while maintaining a broader national and global perspective. Issues of democracy, constitutionalism, social justice, gender, identity, development, peace, conflict and globalisation are incorporated into the learning process.
