Important Announcement

The Standing Committee undertook a review to determine whether Assam down town University is conferring PhD degrees in accordance with UGC norms and regulations. The university furnished the requisite information in the prescribed format for scrutiny.
Following a thorough evaluation, the committee found the university's practices to be fully aligned with UGC guidelines.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates should have a Master's degree from a recognized university or equivalent professional degree.
Minimum of 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC/Differently-Abled/EWS candidates) or equivalent grade in UGC 7-point scale.
Candidates with M.Phil. degree and exceptional research aptitude also eligible

ADTU Research Entrance Test (ADTU-RET)

AdtU-RET PhD admission has a two-part evaluation: a written test (70 marks) and an interview (30 marks). Candidates scoring 50% or above in the written test qualify.

Before the interview, applicants must submit a 2-3 page concept note and a PowerPoint presentation to phd@adtu.in.

Exemption from Entrance TesT

Qualified candidates of UGC/CSIR-NET/(JRF), M.Phil. holders exempt from written test.

Exempted candidates need to attend counseling for admission

For admission in Ph.D. Programme a candidate needs to fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

Candidates for admission to the PhD programme shall complete:

2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a minimum 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with atleast 55% marks [50% for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS)] in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution
A 1-year/2-semester master's degree programme after 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or programmes or qualifications declared equivalent to master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with atleast 75% marks [70% for SC/ST/OBC (noncreamy layer)/Differently-Abled, EWS] in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks [50% for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, EWS] in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme.

AdtU-RET examination has the following two components:

Written test [70marks]
Interview/Personal Interaction [30 marks]

Interview/Personal interaction: Students who have secured 50% marks in the written test will be eligible for the interview

All the selected applicants need to submit a concept note on their research interest / area (2-3 pages)and power point (PPT) presentation to phd@adtu.in. Submission of concept note & PPT is mandatory before interview/presentation. Candidates are required to present and discuss their research interest/area before the selection panel. Candidates are advised to prepare Three (03) minute presentation (03 slides) for this purpose.
