Medical Laboratory Technology, also known as Clinical Laboratory Science, is an allied health science aimed at diagnosing, treating, and preventing diseases through clinical laboratory tests and investigations. A Master's in Medical Laboratory Technology offers career opportunities in diagnostics, research and development, forensic science, biomedical research, laboratory exposure, academic advancement, and overseas opportunities for research and innovation.

  • AdtU Medical Laboratory postgraduates will receive specialized training in one of the following areas: Hematology and Blood Transfusion, Microbiology, or Immunology. This prepares them for thriving careers in various sectors such as government and private diagnostic labs, hospital labs, clinical labs, public health labs, academic and research & development, as well as entrepreneurship endeavors.

The training in this subject is imparted to enable the students to carry out routine clinical laboratory investigation. They should be able to provide technical help for selected sophisticated clinical pathology techniques with adequate knowledge of various principles.

Course Overview

The purpose of the course is to train the students to prepare and stain tissue slices of various kinds (paraffin/frozen). Students will have in-depth information about special stains. Students should be able to assist with autopsies and learn specimens for a museum exhibition. The procedure for gathering clinical samples, processing them, and documenting data is taught to the students. Additionally, the students receive fundamental instruction in automation, quality control, and safety procedures. Additionally, cytology training aims to prepare students for various sorts of exfoliation smears/sections and staining. In-depth knowledge will be provided by students in a special stain. The ability to collect and exfoliate cytology smears, and perform standard and specialized staining procedures.

This course is designed to train students in the conduct of a systematic literature review and developing the skills to conduct a review built on the framework of evidence-based practice, an increasingly important standard in the arena of literature reviews.This course combines didactic classroom sessions with substantial project work to create a systematic literature review. This specialization starts with an Introduction to the Biology of Cancer, introduces the molecular biology of cancer and the biologic hallmarks of cancer. Learners will be able to identify the major types of cancer worldwide, describe how genes contribute to the risk and growth of cancer, and describe the ten cellular hallmarks of cancer. Learners will also describe uncontrolled cell division as well as mutation, neoangiogenesis and their roles in tumor formation.
