Medical Laboratory Technology, also known as Clinical Laboratory Science, is an allied health science aimed at diagnosing, treating, and preventing diseases through clinical laboratory tests and investigations. A Master's in Medical Laboratory Technology offers career opportunities in diagnostics, research and development, forensic science, biomedical research, laboratory exposure, academic advancement, and overseas opportunities for research and innovation.

  • To develop an interdisciplinary approach and gain the ability to pursue a career in a PhD program, research organizations, health care administration, as a health and safety officer, in private and government hospitals, diagnostic centres, nursing homes, or in entrepreneurial ventures in multiple allied fields.

  • Procure knowledge and technical skills associated with clinical laboratory procedures within acceptable quality control parameters in Pathology (Haematology, Blood Banking, Clinical Pathology, and Histopathology & Cytology) Microbiology (Bacteriology, Virology, Mycology, Immunology, Parasitology), Biochemistry in Medical Laboratory Technology fundamentals for an explication of Health problems.
  • Identify the impact of a laboratory test to formulate and apply in research, analyze complex laboratory problems, reaching substantiated conclusions using Pathology, Microbiology, and Biochemistry for the diagnosis and research in medical laboratory technology.
  • Learn the development of solutions for complex laboratory tests to diagnose Health problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal, and environmental factors.
  • Apply systematized problem-solving techniques to identify and rectify certain procedural errors, analyze instrument malfunctions, and desire proper supervisory assistance.
  • Acquire practical knowledge through an internship at various multi-speciality hospitals and various research centres.
  • Educate in laboratory safety, blood-borne pathogens, hazardous communication, and other laboratory standards imperative to protect themselves and the patients they serve.

  • Understand the importance of Medical Laboratory Technology as a component of healthcare system and the importance of accurate, precise, and quality result delivery in Haematology, Biochemistry, Pathology, and Microbiology.
  • Acquire the training and knowledge to collect samples, perform analysis of the sample and deliver results by both manual as well as automated techniques.
  • Perform all the laboratory procedures by maintaining quality control of the testing system.
  • Practice the general code of conduct in the laboratory and maintain the confidentiality of the test reports.
  • Understand the importance of personal safety as well as the safety of others inside the laboratory and report any accident (Major or Minor) to the laboratory in charge.

This course aims at imparting the technique of qualitative analysis of biomolecules. The students will also be given the knowledge on Detection, measurement and application of isotopes in research and clinical biochemistry. Quality control indicators, laboratory safety and information system of clinical laboratory which are important for routine lab practices will also be taught.

The candidates will learn about importance of DNA & RNA technology. The subject is aimed at making the students understand the genetics in medicine as well.

  • Students will learn Structure, types, coiling and supercoiling, topoisomerases, replication, satellite DNA and Transcription and translation and will perceive Recombinant DNA technology
  • Students will acquire knowledge concerning Mutation- point mutation and silent mutation, frame shift mutation, physical and chemical mutagen
  • Students will compass Hemoglobin and hemoglobinopathies, phenylketonuria, alkaptonuria, homocystinuria.
