Assam down town University’s Programme of Optometry, under the Faculty of Paramedical Sciences, organized a seminar on “Advanced Optometric Instrumentation”.
Centered around the theme “Innovating for Clear Vision: Sustainable Instrumentation and Investigation in Optometry,” the seminar aimed to bring together creative minds to explore sustainable advancements in the field, fostering innovation, research, and forward-thinking among future optometry professionals.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Dapkupar Wankhar, Dean, along with Dr. Susmita Saha and Dr. Sheela Kumari Singh, Associate Deans of the Faculty of Paramedical Sciences, in the presence of faculty members, guest speaker Ms. Ibtesam Zaman, and students of the Programme of Optometry. In their inaugural remarks, Dr. Wankhar and Ms. Zaman underscored the importance of adopting sustainable and innovative technologies in optometric practice. They also emphasized incorporating eco-friendly approaches into clinical procedures while encouraging students to engage in research and innovation to shape the future of vision science.
Following the inauguration, students of the Programme of Optometry presented an Instrument Exhibition, which showcased models and working prototypes emphasizing cost-effectiveness, portability, and sustainability. Instruments related to history taking, visual acuity, refraction, and ocular surface evaluation were displayed, allowing students to present their ideas, interact with guests and faculty, and receive insightful feedback on their innovations.
The next session featured an expert talk by Ms. Ibtesam Zaman on the seminar’s core theme, where she discussed the growing demand for smart and eco-friendly instruments in optometric practice. She highlighted how modern technology can be integrated into clinical applications while maintaining sustainability, covering topics such as AI-assisted diagnostic tools, energy-efficient designs, recyclable materials, and improved accessibility to eye care.
The seminar concluded with an engaging Q&A session, where participants shared practical ideas for implementing sustainable practices in both clinical and academic settings. The event ended with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Gitismita Devi, who expressed gratitude to the speakers, guests, faculty members, and students for their contributions in making the seminar successful.
