Assam down town University celebrates World Social Work Day 2025

World Social Work Day 2025 was commemorated by the Programme of Social Work, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Assam down town University, under the global theme "Strengthening Intergenerational Solidarity for Enduring Well-Being."

Recognized by the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW), this day is observed annually on the third Tuesday of March with unique themes emphasizing the role of social work in building a better society. To mark the occasion, a street play was conducted at Panikhaiti Market, highlighting the importance of intergenerational communication and family togetherness. The initiative aimed to foster understanding among different generations, strengthening family bonds for overall well-being.

The event commenced with an introductory speech by Mr. Rajgun Handique, Assistant Professor, Programme of Social Work, FHSS, AdtU, who elaborated on the theme and emphasized the significance of bridging generational gaps through communication. Following this, students from the Programme of Social Work performed a compelling street play that depicted a modern household where family members were preoccupied with digital distractions, leaving their elders feeling isolated. The play showcased how the grandfather took the first step in reconnecting the family by sharing childhood stories, which eventually led to the family recognizing the importance of meaningful conversations and spending quality time together.

Many shared their experiences and reflected on ways to improve family communication. The event concluded with insights from Ms. Prerona Sarma, MSW Student, FHSS, AdtU, followed by an interactive session with community members. The initiative successfully conveyed the importance of intergenerational solidarity, encouraging dialogue and reflection among participants.
