133rd National Librarians’ Day celebrated with lectures, book releases, and donations honoring Dr. S. R. Ranganathan’s legacy

Assam down town University celebrated the 133rd National Librarians’ Day with great enthusiasm to honor the birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the father of Library and Information Science in India. 

The event commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and an invocation, followed by the University Anthem. Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) N. C. Talukdar, warmly welcomed all the dignitaries and participants to the event. The lamp lighting ceremony was gracefully performed by the distinguished guests, followed by the felicitation of the Chief Speaker by the Vice-Chancellor.

The Chief Speaker, Mr. Manoj kumar k, Scientist-F at INFLIBNET Centre, delivered an insightful lecture on the theme “Strengthening Research: From Author Identifiers to Ethical Publishing and Integrity,” which was well-received by the audience. The Chief Guest, Mr. Achyut Patowary, emphasized the evolving role of librarians in building an informed society, and also inaugurated two books authored by faculty members and the University Librarian. Adding further value to the celebration, the Guest of Honor, Mr. Monjit Rajkonwar, made a generous donation of rare and significant books to the Central Library of the University. 

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Dr. Rubi Goswami , Librarian, HNDB Central Library, Assam down town University.

This meaningful observance of the 133rd National Librarians’ Day not only paid tribute to Dr. S. R. Ranganathan's enduring legacy but also served as a platform to promote ethical research, scholarly publishing, and the pivotal role of libraries in the academic and societal landscape.
