Assam down town University, through its Faculty of Nursing, observed World Breastfeeding Week 2025 from 5th to 7th August, aligning with the global theme: "Prioritise Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems."
The three-day program underscored the university’s dedication to promoting maternal and child health by actively involving healthcare professionals and mothers. Beginning with an in-service education session for staff nurses, the initiative enhanced awareness on best practices and empowered them to offer effective breastfeeding support.
The second day focused on postnatal mothers, offering one-on-one counselling, addressing common myths, and collecting hand stamp pledges to symbolize their commitment to exclusive breastfeeding. On the final day, antenatal mothers in the OPD were educated about early initiation, the benefits of colostrum, proper techniques, and nutrition, equipping them with knowledge and confidence for the journey ahead.
The event series reflected AdtU’s sustained efforts to build an informed community and foster sustainable support systems for breastfeeding.
