Teachers from 32 Government Schools Participate in Educational Exposure Visit to Strengthen Classroom Practices under NEP 2020

Assam down town University hosted a Teachers’ Educational Exposure Visit organised by Bharti Airtel Foundation in collaboration with Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, Kamrup.. The initiative was undertaken as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen classroom practices and support teacher development in alignment with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The visit brought together educators from 32 Government schools across the Kamrup district. Each participating school was represented by its Head Teacher or Principal along with a Science Teacher, making a total of 64 participants. The exposure visit aimed to provide teachers with firsthand insights into modern educational environments, innovative learning models, and skill-oriented academic frameworks that contribute to building future-ready education systems.

During the visit, participants were introduced to key focus areas such as innovation and incubation ecosystems in higher education, skill development and vocational education under NEP 2020, contemporary teaching-learning practices, industry-academia collaboration, and effective classroom strategies that can be meaningfully adapted within Government school settings.

Prof. Sunandan Baruah, Director – Innovation, Startup and Acceleration, Assam down town University, addressed the gathering and spoke on the importance of nurturing creativity, critical thinking, and experiential learning from an early age. He emphasized that innovation is not confined to laboratories alone but can begin within school classrooms through project-based learning, hands-on activities, and real-life problem-solving. Encouraging teachers to adopt interdisciplinary approaches and student-led initiatives, Prof. Baruah highlighted how such practices can make learning more engaging and impactful. He also underlined the role of incubation centres in guiding young learners towards innovation and entrepreneurship, noting that early exposure to skill-based education plays a vital role in enhancing students’ career readiness.

The participants were also addressed by Dr. N. N. Dutta, Chancellor, Assam down town University, who shared his perspectives on the evolving role of educators and academic institutions in shaping holistic, inclusive, and future-focused education.

Officials from Bharti Airtel Foundation reaffirmed their commitment to empowering teachers as catalysts of educational transformation, while representatives from Samagra Shiksha, Kamrup emphasized the importance of continuous professional development aligned with the goals of NEP 2020.

The exposure visit concluded with interactive discussions, campus tours, and experience-sharing sessions, offering educators an opportunity to explore how innovative practices from higher education institutions can be thoughtfully adapted within Government schools.
