Expert Talk on Crime Scene Analysis & Wildlife Forensics Explores Forensic Science's Impact

Assam down town University hosted a highly informative and engaging guest expert talk on "Analysing & Reconstructing Crime Scene Through Multidisciplinary Forensics", organized by the Programme of Forensic Science under the Faculty of Science. 

The session brought together distinguished experts, Dr. Kanak Chandra Baruah (Retd. Director, Forensic Science Laboratory, Shillong) and Dr Rupam Dutta (Assistant Professor, Animal Biotechnology, Veterinary College, Khanapara), who provided valuable insights into the role of forensic science in criminal and wildlife investigations.

Dr. Kanak Chandra Baruah led the first session, briefing forensic physics and its application in crime scene reconstruction. He elaborated on techniques such as blast pattern analysis, fire dynamics, and ballistic trajectory mapping, demonstrating their significance in cases involving explosives, arson, homicide, and suicides. Through real-world case studies, he highlighted how scientific methodologies contribute to uncovering crucial evidence and ensuring justice.

The second session, led by Dr. Rupam Dutta, focused on wildlife forensics, emphasizing its pivotal role in combating poaching and illegal wildlife trade. He introduced advanced forensic techniques, including DNA profiling and morphological studies, used to identify endangered species, trace illegal wildlife products, and support legal proceedings. His presentation underscored the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in wildlife crime investigations and biodiversity conservation.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks, recognizing the speakers for their invaluable contributions and inspiring attendees to explore the expanding horizons of forensic science.
