The Programme of Performing Arts under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Assam down town University is hosting a five-day workshop on Ojapali, a traditional folk art form of Assam.
On this first day, the workshop was inaugurated by the esteemed resource person, Mr. Gunakar Dev Goswami, a Sangeet Natak Akademi Award recipient (2024) and a prominent figure in Assamese art and culture. Mr. Goswami, son of the legendary Padma Shri Jatin Goswami, brings with him a rich heritage of artistic excellence. A renowned writer, actor, director in Assamese theatre, and an expert in Sattriya, his insights are invaluable to the students.
Today, Mr. Goswami introduced the students to the theoretical foundations of Ojapali, covering its history, evolution, and various forms. Students also got their first taste of the practical aspects, learning the fundamental footstep movements, bandana singing, and one raga. This workshop is an exceptional opportunity for students and art enthusiasts to immerse themselves in one of Assam’s treasured folk traditions.
