What is this Programme about?

Bachelor of Computer Science and Engineering is a Under Graduate Degree awarded for the programme in the area of Computer Science and Engineering. Abbreviated form for the Bachelor of Computer Science and Engineering is BCS

Programme Vision:

1. To create the most conducive environment for quality academic and research oriented undergraduate and postgraduate education in computer science and engineering and prepare the students for a globalised technological society and orient them towards serving the society .

2. To be renowed itself as a reputed organization in engineering education and research aimed towards betterment of society.

4. To empower the students with the required skills to solve the complex technological problems of modern society and also provide them with a framework for promoting collaborative and multidisciplinary activities.

5. To serve the local and the national community by creating awareness about IT related products and to impress upon then the importance of knowledge management. 

Learning Objectives: Graduate will establish himself/herself as effective professionals by solving real world problems using investigative and analytical skills along with the knowledge acquired in the field of Computer Science and Engineering; Graduate will demonstrate his/her ability to adapt to rapidly changing environment in advanced areas of Computer Science and scale new height in their profession through life-long learning; Graduate will prove his/her ability to work and communicate effectively as a team member and /or leader to complete the task with minimal resources, meeting deadlines; Graduate will embrace professional code of ethics in the profession while deliberately being part of projects which contributes to the society at large without disturbing the ecological balance.

Eligibility for admission:

Selection procedure: He/she has passed H.S. in Science (with atleast 45% in Physics,Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical Vocational Subject) /Diploma in Computer Science/Information Technology (with atleast 45%) for Lateral entry

(40% in case of candidate belonging to reserved category)

Duration of the course Duration of the course: 8 semesters/ 4 Years

Medium of instruction: English shall be the medium of instruction for all the subjects of study and for examination of the course. Attendance: A candidate will be permitted to appear for the University Examination for any semester if he / she secure not less than70% of attendance in the number of instructional days during the calendar year, failing which he / she will be not allowed to appear in the semester examination.BCS degree shall be on a full time pattern with graded responsibilities in the theoretical and practical applications of computer sciences. The participation of all the students in all facets of educational process is essential. Every candidate should take part in seminars, group discussions etc. Every candidate should be required to participate actively and with team spirit. Overall development should include involvement in workshops conducted by the department and research studies.

PO1: Engineering Knowledge: Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

PO2 : Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, research literature and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences.

PO3 : Design/ Development of Solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal and environmental considerations.

PO4 : Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data and synthesis of information to provide valid conclusions.

PO5 : Modern Tool Usage: Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

PO6 : The Engineer and Society: Apply reasoning informed by contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to professional engineering practice.

PO7 : Environment and Sustainability: Understand the impact of professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts and demonstrate knowledge of and need for sustainable development.

PO8 : Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of engineering practice.

PO9 : Individual and Team Work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams and in multi-disciplinary settings.

PO10 : Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations and give and receive clear instructions.

PO11 : Project Management and Finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

PO12 : Life-long Learning: Recognize the need for and have the preparation and ability to Engage in independent and life- long learning in the broadest context of technological Change.

 

 

Research:

  1. Under Collaborative Projects Scheme (Ongoing)

               Dr. Mala Dutta Assoc. Prof. CSE and Mrs. Eirene Barua Asst. Prof. CSE have been selected for funding by  Assam down town University to conduct research related to the subject of food adulteration in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry, Cotton College State University.

               Mr. Prasanta Pratim Bairagi Asst. Prof. CSE have been selected for funding by  Assam down town University to conduct research related to the subject of Performance Analysis of Routing Protocols in Wireless Sensor Network in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Assam Don Bosco University.

     2. Under Seed Money Project Scheme (Completed)

             Mr. Prasanta Pratim Bairagi, Asst. Prof.,CSE has received SEED funding of Rs 40,000/- from Assam down town University to accomplish research related to the subject of IoT based smart LPG gas leakage monitoring system. He completed the project successfully.

        3. Under Other Project Schemes (Completed)

                 Mr. Mriganka Sarmah, Asst. Prof.,CSE has received Consultancy funding of Rs 1,00,000/- from Assam Association of North America to accomplish research related to the subject of Translation of English sentences into Assamese using Android App. He completed the demo project successfully.

Achievement:

  1. Student awarded first position for model competition on 28th February 2017 on Science day at the university.
  2. Student awarded 3rd prize in inter department poster making competition on Science at the university.
  3. The Department is proud of the research initiative of some of the faculty members for their collaborations with prestigious organizations such as Cotton College State University, Assam Don Bosco Universities, Assam Association of North America. Department has also filed for funds in National Granting Agencies such as from DST and AICTE for improving the research environment and encouraging students and scholars.
