Eligibility for admission:

Eligibility Criteria:

For candidates seeking admission to the First Semester:

· Passed the Higher Secondary Examination (10+2) of AHSEC or any other recognized Board with English, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

· Must have secured at least 45 % marks in aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (with 5 % marks relaxation in aggregate marks for candidates belonging to the ST / SC categories).

· Must be physically fit and should possess a good moral character.

· Shall have to produce the Citizenship Certificate at the time of admission. Students from abroad shall have to fulfill the requisite conditions prescribed by the Govt. of India.

For candidates seeking admission to the Third Semester through Lateral Entry for Diploma holders:

· Must have passed the Diploma examination of the State Council of Assam or any other equivalent examination in Mechanical Engineering or in any related branch of Mechanical Engineering.

· Must have secured at least 45% marks (with 5% relaxation for reserved categories of SC/ST) in aggregate in the diploma examination.

Programme Contents:

Duration of the course Duration of the course: 8 semesters/ 4 Years

Medium of instruction: English shall be the medium of instruction for all the subjects of study and for examination of the course.

Attendance: A candidate will be permitted to appear for the University Examination for any semester if he / she secure not less than75% of attendance in the number of instructional days during the calendar year, failing which he / she will be not allowed to appear in the semester examination. The participation of all the students in all facets of educational process is essential. Every candidate should take part in seminars, group discussions etc. Every candidate should be required to participate actively and with team spirit. Overall development should include involvement in workshops conducted by the programme and research studies.

Mechanical engineers research, design, develops, build, and test mechanical and thermal devices, including tools, engines, and machines. Mechanical engineering Programme helps in imparting the following important skills and abilities, in the students:

· Ability to analyze problems to see how mechanical and thermal devices might help solve the problem

· Knowledge for designing or redesigning mechanical and thermal devices using analysis and computer-aided design

· Ability to develop and test prototypes of devices they design

· Adept in analyzing the test results and change the design as needed

· Expertise in overseeing the manufacturing process for the device

· Functioning effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams and in multi-disciplinary settings.

· Ability to Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations and give and receive clear instructions.

· Expertise in demonstrate knowledge and understanding of engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.
