










Assam down town University organized a six-day Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) program on “Accreditation and Practice Standards” from 23rd March to 28th March 2026. The program was conducted by the Faculty of Nursing in collaboration with down town Hospital, IQAC Assam down town University, and the Association of Nurse Executives’ India (ANEI).
The program began with a welcome address by Ms. Naorem Seilani Devi, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Nursing, who greeted the dignitaries and participants and briefly outlined the objectives of the program. This was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries and organizing committee members. Participants also completed a pre-test at the beginning of the program.
Throughout the six days, the sessions were delivered by experienced resource persons on key themes related to accreditation and quality nursing practice. Day 1 featured a lecture by Dr. Swapnav Borthakur, Deputy Medical Superintendent, down town Hospital, on “Roles of Professional and Regulatory Bodies in Quality Assurance (National and International).” Day 2 included a session by Ms. Judith, Assistant Nursing Superintendent, down town Hospital, focusing on “Strengthening Nursing Care through Quality Assurance.” On Day 3, Ms. Mary Anthony Angami, Nursing Superintendent, down town Hospital, discussed the foundation of nursing excellence and evidence-based practices in quality nursing care.
Day 4 featured a session by Dr Anup Basistha, Ph D, Deputy Director (Ranking), IQAC, Assam down town University, who spoke on “Accreditation Standards and Pathways to Quality Nursing Education.” On Day 5, Mr. Arindam Bhattacharya, Quality Analyst, down town Hospital, delivered a lecture on “Elevating Nursing Practice through NABH Standards.” The final day included a session by Prof (Dr)Manashi Sengupta, Dean, Faculty of Nursing, Assam down town University, on “Upholding National and Global Standards of Nursing Excellence.” Her session highlighted the importance of nursing standards, evidence-based practice, leadership roles of nurses, and strategies to promote professional engagement.
The six-day program concluded with a post-test and a valedictory session, during which certificates were distributed to the participants by Dr. Anup Basistha. Feedback collected from participants was highly positive, with many appreciating the interactive sessions and the practical knowledge gained on accreditation processes and quality standards essential for maintaining high-quality nursing care.
The objective of the CNE was to provide comprehensive knowledge on accreditation standards and processes in healthcare settings, particularly within the nursing profession.
