MMSW is a 2-year, 4-semester, 148-credit postgraduate programme (3,600 total hours) designed to build advanced, specialised competence in medical social work. Semester I (33 credits/750 hours) covers Advanced Social Work Theory & Practice, Work with Individuals and Families, Introduction to Health Systems in India, The Hospital System and Interdisciplinary Practice, Medical Social Work I, Research Methods I (Quantitative), a Counselling skills lab, and Health Communication, alongside 300 hours of fieldwork. Semester II (33 credits/750 hours) covers Medical Sociology & Medical Anthropology, Working with Groups, Health Policies & Programmes, Medical Social Work II, Research Methods II (Qualitative), Psychiatric Information for Medical Social Workers, Health Ethics, Advanced Counselling Skills, and Digital Literacy, with further fieldwork. Semester III (35 credits/810 hours) specialises into Epidemiology, Chronic Illness and Palliative Care, Community Organization, Community Health, Resource Mobilization and Accountability, Mental Health in India, Rehabilitation, Welfare Schemes and Health Insurance Programmes, a Therapeutic Interventions skills lab, and an Evaluation and Quality Improvement workshop. Semester IV (47 credits/1350 hours) focuses on Health Laws and Legal Frameworks, Leadership and Administration of Health Care Social Work, Health Advocacy and Action, Medical Social Work in Humanitarian Emergencies, a Research Project/Dissertation, a Student-Led Social Work Seminar, and extensive fieldwork (660 hours) with a fieldwork viva.
