Assam down town University’s Outreach and Extension Committee, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and down town Hospital, organized a meaningful Awareness Camp and Donation Drive on Health Literacy for the university’s support staff.

Focused on promoting grassroots health awareness, the event featured insightful sessions on the Rice Fortification Programme and its vital role in the Public Distribution System, conducted by Dr. Ritismita Devi, Assistant Professor, Programme of Biochemistry, Faculty of Science, who also demonstrated the cooking and washing procedures of fortified rice. This was followed by an engaging session by Ms. Tridisha Borah, Ph.D. Scholar, Food Nutrition & Dietetics, Faculty of Sciences, highlighting the importance of nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices. Dr. Daisy Sharma, Associate Professor, Programme of Food Nutrition and Dietetics, Faculty of Science, further emphasized the positive impact of a balanced diet, quality sleep, and regular physical activity on overall well-being.

As part of the initiative, a blood sugar testing camp was also conducted, enabling participants to gain awareness of their health status through early detection and preventive care.

The initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 50 housekeeping and ground staff members, reaffirming Assam down town University’s commitment to inclusive and impactful community outreach. The program concluded with a Donation Drive, where dry ration kits, packed in eco-friendly banana leaves were distributed to the beneficiaries.

This thoughtful gesture not only ensured food security for the staff but also reflected a strong stand on environmental sustainability, aligning with SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
