Assam down town University, through its Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, organised an engaging literary session titled Beyond the Borderlands: Literature, Memory and Humanitarian Practice, centred on the recently published Colour My Grave Purple and Other Stories by Shehnab Sahin.

The session introduced students to contemporary literature from Northeast India while encouraging meaningful discussions on history, identity, memory, and storytelling. Drawing from her experiences growing up in Assam and working in the international humanitarian sector, the author shared insights into the inspirations behind her anthology, which spans narratives from the 1850s to the 2000s and blends history, folklore, and personal journeys.

Through readings, guided discussions, and an interactive exchange with the author, students explored the intersections of literature and lived experience, gaining a deeper appreciation of the rich cultural and historical landscape of Northeast India.

The session concluded on an inspiring note, with students expressing keen interest in the author's journey and in understanding how literature can become a source of reflection, resilience, and hope.
