AdtU successfully held the 5th Harinarayan Dutta Baruah Memorial Lecture, celebrating Assam’s cultural legacy with talks, performances, and a documentary launch

Assam down town University successfully organized the 5th Harinarayan Dutta Baruah Memorial Lecture, an annual academic event held in honor of Late Harinarayan Dutta Baruah.

This initiative, which has been running for the past four years, reflects the university’s commitment to preserving Assam’s cultural and intellectual heritage.

The event commenced with a tribute to Late Harinarayan Dutta Baruah, followed by a ceremonial lamp lighting. The ritual was graced by the presence of the Hon’ble Chancellor, Dr. N N Dutta, AdtU, Dean of Studies, Prof. Bandana Dutta, the Chief Speaker Dr. Pabitra Pran Goswami, Chief Guests Mr. Pramod Kalita (Secretary, Publication Board, Assam), Prof Amarjyoti Choudhury (Noted educationist) and Dr. Parthajit Baruah (noted film writer and filmmaker), along with the Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) N. C. Talukdar, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Pranveer Singh, respected Trustee members, and other distinguished dignitaries.

To invoke a spiritual and cultural atmosphere, a group of faculty members and students presented a Borgeet, reflecting the traditional devotional music of Assam. The welcome address was delivered by Prof. N.C. Talukdar, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, who also felicitated the Chief Speaker. The Chief Guests were felicitated by the Dean of Studies in acknowledgment of their valuable presence.

The highlight of the event was an erudite lecture delivered by Dr. Pabitra Pran Goswami on the topic “Significance of Borgeet”, where he explored the historical depth, lyrical beauty, and cultural importance of this musical tradition.

Adding to the vibrancy of the occasion, students performed a captivating Bhortaal dance, which brought energy and cultural richness to the event. The event also marked the inauguration of a book and a documentary, signifying the university’s ongoing efforts in academic and cultural documentation.

The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks, followed by the screening of the documentary, leaving the audience enriched and inspired by the legacy of Harinarayan Dutta Baruah.
