Assam down town University observed World Environment Day on 5th June with a thought-provoking and action-oriented event organized by the AdtU Biodiversity Cell and the Green Intention Program, aligning with the United Nations Environment Program’s theme “Beat Plastic Pollution.”
The event began with a welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) L. N. Kakati, Chairperson of the Biodiversity Cell, highlighting the urgent issue of plastic pollution. A special moment of the event was a captivating video presentation by Prof. (Dr.) N. C. Talukdar, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, on the life cycle of the Red-Vented Bulbul, which left the audience amazed and inspired.
Prof. (Dr.) T V V L N Rao, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, delivered an enlightening talk on “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Our Roles in Ending Plastic Pollution,” emphasizing the importance of individual and collective responsibility.
In a united effort, faculty members and students participated in a campus-wide plastic cleanup drive, reinforcing the university’s commitment to developing a plastic-free campus, a significant step toward a healthier microclimate, preservation of biodiversity, and a better academic atmosphere.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Gunamoni Das, Member Secretary of the AdtU Biodiversity Cell, marking the successful wrap-up of an impactful day dedicated to environmental responsibility.
