Getting into university is exciting, but the days before you actually walk onto campus can feel a little chaotic. What do you bring? Where do you report? What happens once you're actually there? If you are joining Assam down town University for the 2026-27 academic session, here is everything you need to know before orientation day.

First, sort out the paperwork before you arrive

AdtU has made most of the pre-joining formalities digital and it's worth getting these out of the way early rather than scrambling on reporting day itself.

Start by clearing your admission dues, that's your Admission Fee, Security Deposit and First Semester Fee (Third Semester Fee if you are a Lateral Entry student). If you are financing your degree through an education loan, get the bank paperwork and sanction formalities wrapped up beforehand too.

Next, download the A-Connect App, available on both Android and iOS. This is where you will complete the university's mandatory pre-joining activities: e-Mandates, the Anti-Ragging Declaration, the Student Code of Conduct acceptance, and a Health Insurance Declaration. You will also upload a passport-size photo (formal attire, plain white background) and your signature for your ID card, and register for student clubs while you are in there. Step-by-step guides and a video tutorial are linked inside the app if you get stuck.

A few other things to tick off: submit your parent or guardian's details (name, relationship, mobile number, email), open a bank account in your own name if you don't already have one, since scholarships and reimbursements will need it, and if you plan to use the university bus service, subscribe to it in advance.

Don't forget your original documents: Academic records, identity proof, category certificates if applicable, all of it needs to come with you for verification, and you will want to hold onto them until your registration is fully complete.

Reporting day: know your date

Orientation 2026 runs across several days in August, with each programme assigned its own reporting date so things don't get overcrowded. Engineering students, for instance, report on different days depending on their branch, B.Tech Civil and Mechanical on the 5th August, B.Tech CSE on the 6th August, while programmes like BBA, BCA, hotel management, and the various M.Sc, M.A., and M.Tech courses are spread across the following dates. All reporting happens at K Block between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM, so it's worth double-checking your specific programme's date on the official schedule rather than assuming.

What actually happens once you are on campus!

The day itself is designed to move you through in stages rather than one long queue. You will be welcomed at K Block (there is an optional instant photo booth too), before heading to the IT and Admission Desk to verify or download A-Connect, check out the Campus Bazaar stalls, and grab something to eat.

From there, depending on whether your fees are cleared, you'll move through fee confirmation, documentation verification, faculty desk enrollment (this is where you get your batch and WhatsApp group details), hostel and transport allotment if needed, ID card photography and kit collection, and a refreshment break. The whole process wraps up with an instant photo collection near the library before you're free to head out.

Getting the pre-joining checklist done in advance genuinely makes reporting day faster and a lot less stressful, so it's worth the half hour it takes.
