EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:
North East India is the homeland of a large number of tribes who speak different languages, have different cultural set up and of diverse racial origin. This area gives the physical anthropologists and human population geneticists a unique opportunity to understand the mechanism of biological variation.
The Tais originally lived in the mountains of Southern China and spread over the Southeast part of Burma up to Bangkok. Ahom, Phakae, Turung, Khamti, Khamiyang and Aiton are the tribes of Tai origin who came to Assam crossing the Patkai range of hills at different times. Ahom were the first group of Tai people who came in the thirteenth century. Phakaes are the smallest group comprising of only about 2000 people still maintaining their original culture.
