Assam down town University observed World Suicide Prevention Day 2026 with a meaningful guest lecture organised by the Programme of Psychology, Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences, on this year’s theme, “Changing the Narrative on Suicide.”

The session featured Dr. Shyamanta Das, MD, Professor & HOD, Department of Psychiatry, Dhubri Medical College Hospital, who engaged students in an insightful discussion on suicide prevention, mental well-being, and the importance of recognising and responding to those who may be struggling.

The program encouraged students to move beyond silence and stigma towards open conversations, empathy, and meaningful support.Because sometimes, changing the narrative begins with simply listening without judgement.
