Assam down town University celebrated World Pharmacist Day 2025, under the global theme “Think Health, Think Pharmacist.”
The event was organized by the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science in collaboration with the Assam State Pharmaceutical Price Monitoring and Resource Unit (PMRU), Drug Control Administration, Directorate of Health Services, Assam, and in association with the Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA) Guwahati Local Branch and IPA-SF AdtU Chapter.
The celebration was graced by Mr. Biswajit Talukdar, Drugs Controller, Assam, as the Chief Guest. The inaugural session began with Saraswati Vandana and the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by the State Anthem and a heartfelt tribute to late Zubeen Garg. Dignitaries present included the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Narayan Chandra Talukdar; Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof Pranveer Singh PhD (IITK) FIE FSED Disruptive Learning Innovator; and Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science, Dr. Saikat Sen. Their addresses emphasized the vital contribution of pharmacists in healthcare delivery, patient welfare, and community well-being.
In his keynote address, Mr. Biswajit Talukdar spoke about the evolving responsibilities of pharmacists in ensuring the rational use of medicines, maintaining drug quality, and promoting affordability. He encouraged aspiring pharmacists to uphold professional ethics and contribute meaningfully to public health and pharmaceutical innovation.
The event featured a technical session on the Drug Price Control Order (DPCO), 2013 by Dr. Satyabrat Sarma (M Pharm, MBA,PhD), along with a debate competition and vibrant cultural performances. Students also showcased their creativity through poster and slogan presentations centered around the day’s theme. A hands-on training session on the Pharma Sahi Dam initiative by Mr. Gaurav Bhargab provided participants with practical knowledge of drug price monitoring and its importance in consumer awareness.
The celebration concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, vote of thanks, and the National Anthem, marking a successful and insightful observance of World Pharmacist Day 2025 at Assam down town University.
