Assam down town University, under the Faculty of Science, organized a workshop titled “Basics & Advancement of GC-MS and its Use in Research and Industry” featuring Mr. Mahbubul Alom, a distinguished expert in GC-MS, as the esteemed guest.

The session featured experts from Spincotech, who specialize in chromatography and spectroscopy, delivering an insightful lecture on Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), headspace, and pyrolysis techniques. They elaborated on their practical applications in scientific investigation and discussed data analysis methodologies essential for contemporary research.

The workshop emphasized the interpretation of GC-MS data through interactive discussions, while also highlighting the critical role of GC-MS in forensic science, environmental studies, pharmaceuticals, and biochemical research. The session served as a valuable platform for participants to gain hands-on knowledge and enhance their technical understanding of analytical instrumentation.

Supervised by Dr. Debasis Bora, Associate Professor (Forensic Science), and Dr. Suman Kumar Samanta, Associate Professor (FRIC), the workshop successfully fostered skill development and research-oriented learning among both faculty members and students, bridging academic knowledge with real-world scientific applications.
