Assam down town University hosted a special workshop on Chiya Geet, an ancient and significant folk musical tradition of Assam’s Darrang district, as part of an effort to preserve and promote this precious cultural heritage.
Organised under the initiative of the Programme of Performing Arts, with the support of Mr. Hirak Jyoti Das, Assistant Professor, the workshop brought students closer to a folk tradition that is gradually fading from contemporary memory. Students actively participated in the sessions, learning about the art form and contributing to its preservation.
The workshop was led by Hiranyaprabha Nath Baideu, the first recognised Chiya Geet artist of All India Radio, as Chief Trainer, alongside Guru Bhadrakanta Nath Dev, a distinguished guru of folk music.
Through initiatives like these, AdtU continues to create spaces where heritage is not only remembered, but learned, practised, and carried forward by the next generation.
