Date- 27th Mar 2026

Assam down town University successfully conducted a two-day Skill Enhancement Workshop on Civil Engineering Practices for final-year Diploma Civil Engineering students from Nagaland Polytechnic, Kohima. The program was organized by the Faculty of Engineering with a focus on strengthening practical knowledge and industry-relevant skills.

The workshop began with an inaugural session featuring a welcome address by Dr. Manash J Borah, Additional Dean, Faculty of Engineering. This was followed by an insightful presentation on the Civil Engineering programme by Dr. Rumi Goswami, along with an overview of the Directorate of International Affairs by Ms. NABANITA DAIMARY

The first day focused hands-on field demonstrations were conducted by Dr. Saurav Das, covering the use of auto level, GPS, and angle measurements. The afternoon session emphasized material testing procedures, including consistency, setting time, fineness, and compressive strength.

The second day commenced with a session on GIS and its applications in civil engineering led by Dr. Arnab Bormudoi. Subsequent sessions covered soil testing methods such as Atterberg limits and compaction, along with transportation engineering laboratory tests focusing on aggregate properties and shape tests.

The workshop concluded with a campus tour, providing participants with a broader perspective of the university environment.

Overall, the program offered valuable practical exposure, significantly enhancing students’ technical skills and effectively bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world engineering practices.
