Assam down town University, on the occasion of World Food Day, organized an Indigenous Food Competition at Shahid Kushal Konwar High School, Panikhaiti.
The event was hosted by the Outreach and Extension Committee, Programme of Food Nutrition and Dietetics, Faculty of Science, in collaboration with IDEATION: Council for Promotion Research and Trade in Traditional Foods (CPRTTF), NER Chapter, led by Dr. Daisy Sharma.
The competition, designed exclusively for school students, aimed to promote awareness about indigenous and locally available food resources, with a special focus on herbs, chutneys, and salads. Participants showcased an impressive array of traditional herbs and prepared innovative chutneys and salads, celebrating the diversity and nutritional value of local plant-based foods.
Judged by Dr. Jasmin Islam and Dr. Radali Duarah, the competition rewarded creativity, variety, and nutritional significance. Cash prizes were awarded to the winners, with the first prize recipient presenting an exceptional 28 varieties of herbs, out of the 50+ varieties displayed in total.
The event provided a vibrant platform for young minds to rediscover the richness of indigenous foods and their vital role in health, sustainability, and cultural heritage, fostering both creativity and awareness about traditional dietary practices.
