Assam down town University, as the Technical Support Unit of the UN World Food Programme (WFP) in Assam, actively participated in the State-Level Stakeholder Workshop on Rice Fortification and Media Sensitization, organized by the Department of Food, Public Distribution & Consumer Affairs, Government of Assam, in collaboration with UN WFP.
The two-day workshop brought together key stakeholders from various departments, institutions, and civil society to review progress, address challenges, and strategize the scale-up of rice fortification under key government schemes such as PDS, MDM, and ICDS.
Representing AdtU, Dr. Manash Sarma, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Supervisor of the TSU unit, delivered an insightful introductory talk on the significance of rice fortification in improving nutritional outcomes. The workshop featured presentations from UN WFP on global and national best practices, alongside technical sessions addressing myths, quality assurance, and interdepartmental coordination.
By fostering informed dialogue and media engagement, the event marked a significant step toward enhancing public understanding and policy-level support for fortified rice distribution across Assam.
