Rabindra Jayanti Celebrated with Music, Dance and Cultural Tributes to Rabindranath Tagore’s Timeless Legacy

Assam down town University celebrated Rabindra Jayanti with great enthusiasm and cultural spirit through a special program jointly organized by the Music Club and Dance Club.

The program commenced with a warm welcome and ceremonial lamp lighting, followed by an insightful address by Nandita Bhattacharjee Goswami, President of BSSS. In her speech, she reflected on the life, philosophy, and literary achievements of Rabindranath Tagore while highlighting the importance of Santiniketan and Kala Bhawan in shaping his vision of education and art. She concluded with a soulful recitation of one of Tagore’s poems.

The celebration featured a vibrant cultural programme including a bilingual Assamese and Bengali rendition of the Rabindra Sangeet “Ami Chini Go Chini Tomare” by faculty members, along with solo performances by Smriti Sarkar, Julfia Jannat, and Prof. (Dr.) Biswas Prasun Chatterji from the Faculty of Science. The audience was also mesmerized by graceful dance performances presented by Purbali Paul, Debosmita Sinha, Sneha Deb, Dr Shalaka Baidya (PT) from the Faculty of Physiotherapy, and Dr. Lupamudra Bhattacharjee from the Faculty of Mass Communication.

Adding an intellectual essence to the celebration, Debraj Nath delivered a speech on Rabindranath Tagore’s immense contribution to Rabindra Sangeet and Indian culture, while Ayush recited the renowned poem “Sonar Tori.” 

The program concluded with a heartfelt address and Rabindra Sangeet performance by Smt. Sandipa Chakraborty, Vice President of BSSS. Overall, the event beautifully reflected the richness of Bengali culture and paid a fitting tribute to the timeless legacy of Rabindranath Tagore.
