Assam down town University organised a Nutrition and Malnutrition Awareness and Screening Program at Pashim Mayong High School, Dhekiabari, Mayong, under the Faculty of Allied and Healthcare Sciences, with a focus on promoting better nutrition, healthy dietary practices and mental well-being among women.

Led by Dr. Ritismita Devi, and Ms. Ritu Chaudhury, Assistant Professor, Allied and Healthcare Sciences, AdtU, in collaboration with Outreach and Extension Activities, AdtU, the interactive session explored women’s nutritional needs across different stages of life, including menstruation, lactation and menopause. Participants received practical guidance on balanced diets, essential nutrients, maternal health, bone health, hydration, physical activity and the connection between nutrition and mental well-being.

The program also created an open space for women to share their everyday challenges, including skipped meals, irregular eating patterns and limited awareness of age-appropriate nutrition. Emphasising that healthy choices can be both affordable and sustainable, the initiative also included the distribution of bananas, milk and moong dal as simple examples of nutritious food choices.

With 45 women, 3 children and 12 student volunteers participating, the program served as a meaningful community outreach initiative, reinforcing the message that good nutrition and well-being are essential at every stage of a woman’s life.
