Date- 14th Oct 2025

Assam down town University, through its NSS Unit, organized an Awareness Session on Blood Cancer and Blood Stem Cell Transplantation in collaboration with DKMS Foundation India.

The initiative aimed to educate the university community about the growing concern of blood cancer in India, the importance of early detection, and how blood stem cell transplantation can serve as a life-saving treatment for many patients. The session began with a welcome address by the NSS Program Officer, followed by an enlightening presentation by Ms. Saswati Dutta from DKMS Foundation India. She explained in detail the causes and impact of blood cancer, the science behind stem cell transplantation, and the crucial need for more registered donors in India. Ms. Dutta further demonstrated how a simple cheek swab can help register potential donors and emphasized that the donation process is safe, non-surgical, and comparable to a platelet donation.

After the presentation, an on-site registration drive was conducted where enthusiastic students and faculty members came forward to register as potential donors under the guidance of NSS volunteers and the DKMS team. The event spread vital awareness but also encouraged the spirit of empathy, volunteerism, and social responsibility among the participants.

The session beautifully embodied the NSS motto, “Not Me, But You,” highlighting the value of selfless service and the power of collective action in saving lives.
