On 30th December 2024 Central Library and Literary Club , Assam down town university, has organized an even to celebrate the birth anniversary of the legendary Assamese literary figure, Nabakanta Barua,. The event was organized to honor his immense contribution to Assamese literature, poetry, and culture. The gathering witnessed participation from academicians, artists, students, and admirers of Nabakanta Baruah’s works. The event began with a warm welcome extended to all attendees, including distinguished guests, speakers, and artists. The dignitaries inaugurated the event with a lamp-lighting ceremony, accompanied by a melodious performance of borgeet by Hirakjyoti Das. The university anthem was performed, filling the venue with pride and unity. Dr. Upala Madam,Professor , Humanities and social sciences, AdtU presented a comprehensive introduction to Navakanta Baruah's life, his contributions to Assamese literature, and his role in shaping modern Assamese poetry.A renowned Professor of cotton university Dr. Gautam Sarma delivered an inspiring speech highlighting the relevance of Baruah’s works in contemporary society. He elaborated on the poetic essence and philosophical depth of Baruah’s creations. A heartwarming recitation of selected poems by Nabakanta Baruah was presented by Aboni Borah, evoking a deep emotional connection with the audience. Members of Suratirtha Nyas presented an engaging act featuring songs and poems by Nabakanta Baruah. Their performance beautifully captured the literary and cultural legacy of the poet. The event concluded with the singing of Jatiya Sangeet, leaving the audience with a sense of pride in Assamese heritage and culture.
