On 19th November 2024, an industrial visit to the National Research Centre on Pig, ICAR, Rani, Guwahati, was organized by the Programme of Food Nutrition and Dietetics, Faculty of Sciences, Assam down town University.
The visit aimed to provide M.Sc. 3rd semester students with practical exposure to pig processing techniques and the production of value-added pork products such as sausage, ham, and bacon.
Participants, including 28 students and two faculty members, were introduced to innovative research practices, specialized equipment for chemical and microbial analysis, and the advanced methodologies used at the institute. Highlights included live demonstrations of pork product preparation, guided tours of the slaughterhouse and meat processing units, and interactive Q&A sessions led by experts like Dr. Rajendra Thomas and Dr. Lokesh E.
This enriching experience offered students a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of the industry, equipping them with practical knowledge of pig processing and its role in enhancing livelihoods through research and technological advancements.
