Assam down town University, through its Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management, successfully organised “Heritage on Plate: A Culinary Journey to Our Roots” as part of LUMOS 2026 under the Techno Management Fest 2026, where the unique culinary display event celebrated India's rich cultural diversity and culinary heritage by bringing together students to showcase authentic regional cuisines, traditional attire and the stories behind their food traditions.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 39 participants across 25 teams, representing various educational institutions in Guwahati, including Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM), IAM, IHM, Assam Don Bosco University and B. Barooah College, among others.
Unlike conventional cooking competitions, the event focused on culinary displays rather than live cooking. Participants prepared their dishes in advance and presented them through creative plating, traditional attire and engaging storytelling.

The entries were evaluated based on taste, texture, colour, presentation and the participants' understanding of their culinary heritage. The competition featured a total prize pool of Rs.10,000, recognising the creativity, authenticity and culinary excellence demonstrated by the participants.
Following the evaluation, Kiran Dhobi and Geetamoni Dewraja from ASDM secured the first position, while Mugdha Kashyap from IAM received the second position. The third position was jointly awarded to Muskan Dutta from IHM and Kebali Mena from Assam Don Bosco University.
The event provided an enriching platform for students to explore regional food traditions, appreciate indigenous ingredients and understand the cultural significance of traditional cuisines.
