The HNDB Central Library of Assam down town University organized a Book Talk event on 20th December, 2024, aimed at promoting reading culture and enhancing literary awareness among students, faculty, and staff. This event was a platform for exploring a variety of books and fostering discussions that encourage critical thinking and intellectual engagement.
The Book Talk session focused on discussing a range of books across different genres, including fiction, non-fiction, academic texts, and inspirational works. The idea behind the event was to provide an opportunity for participants to learn about new books, share their thoughts on literary themes, and dive deeper into the knowledge and insights offered by the selected works.
Sahitya Akademi awardee Mr. Jayanta Madhab Bora was the Chief guest of the event and eminent journalist Debajit Bhuyan along with Sahitya Akademi youth awardee Jintu Gitarth were the speakers of the said event.
Dr. Rubi Goswami started the event with the opening speech followed by lamp lighting by the invited guests. Mr. Utpal Dutta, delivered the welcome note. During the event, book summaries were presented by selected faculty members of the university who recently published some books. The discussion was enriching, with the speakers offering personal reflections on how the books had influenced their perspectives, thereby inspiring others to delve into these works. Many senior librarians were invited and interactions with the librarians were done by the eminent journalist Mr. Debajit Bhuyan. Speaker of the event Mr. Jintu Gitarth and the Chief guest also delivered their lecture and said the importance of Libraries and role of librarians in their life. The event was ended with a vote of thanks from Dr. Santosh Kumar Upadhyay. The programme was successfully handled over by the event director, Dr. Ritismita Devi.
The Book Talk also served as an interactive learning experience, encouraging attendees to explore books they might not have otherwise considered. The library staff provided recommendations based on popular and critically acclaimed works, which helped the participants discover new reading material.
