Fifth Day of FDP on Integrative Plant Taxonomy Features Insightful Lecture on Bridging Taxonomy and Traditional Knowledge

The Programme of Botany at Assam down town University successfully conducted the fifth day of its Faculty Development Programme (FDP) titled “Integrative Approach to Plant Taxonomy – Hands-on Training from Field Work to Modern Trends in Taxonomy”.

The day's proceedings commenced with a felicitation ceremony led by Ms. Sreyoshee Sen sarma, Assistant Professor in the Programme of Botany. She extended a warm welcome to the invited resource person, Dr. Namita Nath, Associate Professor in the Department of Botany at Gauhati University.

Dr. Nath delivered an engaging and thought-provoking lecture on the theme “Bridging Taxonomy and Traditional Knowledge through a Collaborative Approach to Scientific Validation.” Her presentation delved into the nuanced interplay between scientific plant classification and indigenous knowledge systems, emphasizing ethical considerations, challenges of integration, and the significance of preserving traditional wisdom in the context of modern taxonomy.

The fifth day concluded on a high note, enriching attendees with profound insights and sparking meaningful academic discourse.
