Assam down town University celebrated the 100th birth anniversary of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika with an evening of music, memories and artistic expression.
At the heart of the evening was pianist Mr. Devanga Bidrum Kalita, whose soulful and expressive recital took the audience through a repertoire spanning Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Handel, Yiruma, John Lennon, Leonard Cohen and James Horner.
What made his performance especially memorable was the way he brought Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s “Bistirno Parore” and “Manuhe Manuhor Babe” to the piano. Familiar melodies found a fresh voice through his interpretation, allowing the timeless words and emotions of the Bard of the Brahmaputra to resonate in a completely new way.
From classical masterpieces to contemporary compositions and finally to the songs that are woven into Assam’s cultural memory, Mr. Devanga Bidrum Kalita’s performance was a beautiful celebration of music without boundaries and a fitting tribute to an artist whose music continues to speak to generations.
