ECCLESIA 2026 Hosts Popsicle Bridge Making Competition, Attracting 30 Teams and Showcasing Engineering Innovation and Structural Skills

Date- 03rd Nov 2026

Assam down town University successfully organised the Popsicle Bridge Making Competition as part of Ecclesia 2026 under the Techno Management Fest 2026, organised by the Faculty of Engineering, the competition was coordinated by Dr. Kamalesh Bhowmik and aimed to promote creativity, teamwork and practical understanding of structural engineering concepts among students.

The competition was conducted over two days, with the first day dedicated to the fabrication phase at the University Amphitheatre and the second day to testing and evaluation at Block A. Participants were provided with materials, including popsicle sticks and glue, and were challenged to design and construct bridges within the stipulated time under faculty supervision.

On the second day, the completed bridge models underwent load testing to assess their load-carrying capacity and structural performance. The entries were evaluated based on parameters such as structural efficiency, load capacity and overall aesthetics. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from 30 teams comprising approximately 140 students, including participants from various engineering colleges and universities outside AdtU.

Following the evaluation, Assam Skill University secured the first position, while the second and third positions were secured by teams from Assam down Ttown University. The winning teams received prizes from a total prize pool of Rs.20,000.

The competition provided students with a valuable opportunity to apply theoretical engineering principles to a practical challenge, particularly in understanding structural behaviour, load transfer and material efficiency.
