Assam down town University organised a Community-Based Cancer Awareness Programme on Early Detection, Healthy Lifestyle and Government Healthcare Schemes at Panikhaiti Mini PHC and Thakurkuchi Village.

Led by the Faculty of Science under the Seed Money Project 2024–25, in collaboration with the NSS Unit, AdtU, the program brought together healthcare professionals, ASHA workers, ANMs, Anganwadi workers, elderly citizens and members of the local community.

The session featured expert insights from Dr. Mahendra Sarma, SMO (Ayur), Panikhaiti Mini PHC, and Dr. Ankita Saikia, MBBS, DCP, Consultant Pathologist, Samiksha Diagnostic Centre, covering cancer prevention, warning signs, early detection, screening, healthy lifestyle practices, tobacco and alcohol cessation, and government healthcare schemes such as PMJAY and Atal Amrit Abhiyan.

Through interactive discussions and Q&A sessions, the initiative aimed to empower communities with knowledge that can be shared within families and neighbourhoods, encouraging early medical care, healthier choices and stronger community-level health awareness.
