Assam down town University, in collaboration with the Central Library and Literary Club, organized a special event to celebrate the birth anniversary of the legendary Assamese literary figure, Nabakanta Barua.
The event commenced with a formal welcome extended to all attendees, including esteemed guests, speakers, and artists. The inauguration was marked by a lamp-lighting ceremony, followed by a graceful borgeet performance by Hirakjyoti Das. The university anthem was subsequently sung, instilling a strong sense of pride and unity among those present.
Dr. Upala Baruah, Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences at Assam down town University, delivered an insightful introduction to the life of Nabakanta Barua, emphasizing his significant contributions to the evolution of modern Assamese poetry. Dr. Gautam Sarma, a distinguished Professor from Cotton University, presented a thought-provoking speech on the enduring relevance of Barua’s work in contemporary society, exploring the poetic essence and philosophical depth embedded in his creations. The audience was deeply moved by Aboni Borah’s poignant recitation of selected poems by Barua. A captivating performance by Suratirtha Nyas, showcasing songs and poems by Barua, further enriched the celebration of his literary and cultural legacy.
The singing of Jatiya Sangeet marked the conclusion of the event, inspiring a deep pride in Assamese heritage and culture in the hearts of the attendees.
