AdtU Signs MoU with UPES to Drive AI, Research, and Innovation for Northeast India

Assam down town University is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UPES, Dehradun- India's leading energy-focused and AI-first university.

The MoU was signed by Mr. Joutishman Dutta, Vice President & Managing Trustee, Assam down town University and Dr. Sunil Rai, Vice Chancellor, UPES. The signing ceremony was attended by Dr Dhruv Kumar, School of Health Sciences (SoHS), UPES, Dr Annapurna, School of Advanced Engineering (SoAE) and Tanupriya Choudhury, School of Computer Science (SoCS), UPES. 

Representing Assam down town University through virtual participation were Dr. Aniruddha Deka, Dean (i/c), Faculty of Computer Technology; Dr. Dr. Deepjyoti Roy Roy, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Computer Technology; Mr. Steven Mankina, Principal, down town School of Business (dtSB); and Dr. Dr. Arnab Sarkar, Assistant Registrar, PhD Cell, in the presence of delegates from NECTAR, UPES, and AdtU.

This strategic partnership marks a significant step towards advancing research, innovation, and sustainable development. Together, the two institutions will collaborate in areas including Artificial Intelligence, disaster resilience, clean energy, hydrogen technologies, Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS), critical minerals, GIS applications, digital health, smart agriculture, rural technologies, biodiversity conservation, and climate adaptation to address the unique opportunities and challenges of Northeast India. 

The collaboration also lays the foundation for joint Ph.D. programmes, collaborative research projects, faculty and student engagement, startup and incubation support, technology transfer and commercialization, capacity building, and skill development initiatives, creating new opportunities for academic excellence and innovation-driven growth. 

As part of this partnership, UPES will bring advanced technologies such as AI-powered flood prediction and early warning systems, GIS-enabled disaster monitoring, hydrogen exploration, critical mineral assessment, CCUS technologies, and AI-enabled biomedical devices for early breast cancer detection, complementing AdtU's expertise to develop impactful solutions for the region. 

This collaboration reflects a shared vision of transforming ideas into impact through research, technology, entrepreneurship, and interdisciplinary learning - while contributing meaningfully to the sustainable development of Northeast India.
