Assam down town University, as part of the Technical Support Unit of the Rice Fortification Programme (World Food Programme), proudly participated in a state-level multi-stakeholder workshop on “Rice Fortification” held in Tripura on 30th April 2025.
Representing the university, Dr. Daisy Sharma, Associate Professor, Programme of Food Nutrition and Dietetics, Faculty of Science, AdtU, contributed to a key panel discussion on “Myths and Misconceptions around Fortified Rice”. Dr. Sharma highlighted the numerous health benefits of fortified rice while addressing common public concerns about its taste, appearance, and safety. Her evidence-based insights were instrumental in dispelling misconceptions and building public trust in food fortification.
The workshop, which brought together experts, policymakers, academicians, and stakeholders, concluded with recommendations for stronger community outreach, enhanced policy support, and collaboration between academic institutions and government bodies to ensure the success of fortified rice initiatives.
