













Assam down town University proudly celebrated World Environment Day on 5 June 2026 under the theme “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.” Organized by the AdtU Biodiversity Cell in collaboration with the Green Intension Program and the Faculty of Science, the event brought together faculty members, staff, and students to reaffirm their commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development.
The programme featured an Indigenous Plantation Drive (Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam) conducted by the Hon’ble Chancellor Dr. N. N. Dutta, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) N. C. Talukdar, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Prof Pranveer Singh PhD-IITK, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. (Dr.) Manash Sarma, where native species such as Halfali, Thekera, and Kordoi were planted to promote biodiversity conservation and ecosystem restoration. Participants also engaged in an interactive session titled “How Does Nature Make You Feel?”, sharing their thoughts and experiences on the role of nature in enhancing human well-being. An informative presentation on Golden Silk Production highlighted its ecological, cultural, and economic significance, while Ms. Sreyoshee Sen sarma, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Sciene recited the renowned poem Rabindranath Tagore’s timeless poem “Where the Mind is Without Fear” added a meaningful cultural dimension to the celebration.
The observance further included a Plastic Clean-Up Drive near the Sports Area and an awareness rally focused on promoting environmental responsibility through conservation and sustainability awareness. The event reflected the university community’s collective dedication to fostering a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable future. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Dr. Gunamoni Das, Member Secretary, and Dr. Snigdha Chakraborty, Deputy Member Secretary, AdtU Biodiversity Cell, Assam down town University.
Together, every small action contributes to a healthier planet and a brighter future for generations to come.
