Assam down town University, through its Programme of Performing Arts under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, started its much-awaited Performing Arts Workshop with great enthusiasm and participation from students across disciplines. The first day unfolded as a dynamic mix of theory and practical sessions, bringing together various classical art forms under one creative umbrella.

In the Vocal Music session titled “Voice Culture and Emotional Expression of Song,” students explored essential vocal techniques such as high breathing, modulation, gamak, and paltas. This was followed by a soulful exploration of emotional expression through a Chaiti song.

The Bharatanatyam session introduced students to the foundational Adavus and Shiva Stuti. The interactive nature of the session kept students engaged, as they practiced precision and grace with every movement.

Acting students were introduced to the basics of stage performance, including the actor’s tools, voice exercises, and body flexibility. The session set a strong foundation for their artistic journey ahead.

In the Tabla sessions, students practiced two Teental Quidas in the morning and continued with a third in the afternoon, delving deeper into rhythm and technique.

The Sattriya session began with an insightful introduction to the traditional dance form, followed by practice of Mati Akhora, allowing students to connect with the heritage of Assam’s classical arts.

Kathak students immersed themselves in the rhythm and grace of the dance form, learning the basics such as Tatkar, Pranam, and initial footwork patterns.

The day concluded on a high note with active participation, creative exploration, and an atmosphere filled with artistic passion. This workshop is not just a training ground but a celebration of India’s diverse cultural expressions.
