AdtU Hosts Comprehensive Suicide Prevention Awareness Session for World Suicide Prevention Day

Assam down town University’s Programme of Psychology from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences organized a comprehensive suicide prevention awareness session on the occasion of world suicide prevention day. The event aimed to foster a deeper understanding of this critical issue and promote a culture of compassion and support.

Dr. Manjusha Saikia Deka Saikia, Associate Professor and the event organizer, delivered the inaugural address, emphasizing the theme of this year's Suicide Prevention Day: "Changing the Narrative on Suicide: Let’s Start the Conversation." Dr. Prateeti Barman (she/her), Dean i/c Humanities and Social Sciences, followed with a thought-provoking speech that highlighted the importance of prioritizing mental health and reaching out to those in need of help.

The session continued with an expert talk by Dr Bornali Das, who shed light on key strategies and interventions for suicide prevention, focusing on destigmatization and encouraging open conversations. The event also featured student performances by Khushi Das and Anjali Mishra from the Department of Psychology, whose skit powerfully illustrated the emotional toll of suicide and the resilience required to face adversity. The day concluded with an interactive session where participants could ask questions and clarify doubts, as well as a poster display by students, with e-certificates awarded to all participants.
