Assam down town University proudly celebrated Rabindra Jayanti on 9th May 2025, commemorating the 164th birth anniversary of the Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore.
The event was a vibrant tribute to the legendary poet, marked by enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and invited dignitaries. The celebration featured a series of cultural performances and artistic expressions inspired by Tagore’s works. The highlight of the occasion was the gracious presence of Sampa Saha Chowdhury, a renowned figure in Indian classical music, recipient of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs Award (Government of India), and the current Principal of Sangeet Bitan Music Academy, Lumding. Her dedication to the preservation and promotion of Indian music has inspired countless young artists across the region. In her keynote address, she passionately spoke about the enduring relevance of Tagore’s philosophy in contemporary times, highlighting how his literary and musical contributions continue to transcend generations, languages, and borders, promoting values of humanism, unity, and spiritual depth.
The cultural segment included melodious Rabindra Sangeet renditions by AdtU’s music enthusiasts, expressive dance performances based on Tagore’s poetic compositions, and poetry recitations by students from various departments. Faculty members of the university also shared their thoughts, emphasizing the importance of celebrating such literary icons to instill cultural awareness and appreciation among today’s youth. The event concluded with a collective rendition of Tagore’s iconic song “Anondo Loke,” which deeply moved the audience.
