













Assam down town University hosted the 6th HNDB Memorial Lecture 2026 on the theme “Harinayaran Duttabaruah and the Emergence of Modernism in Assamese Literature”, organised by the HNDB Central Library.
The program was graced by Chief Guest Shri Rahul Chandra Das, ACS, Director, Cultural Affairs, Assam; Speaker Dr. Ananda Barmudoi, eminent Educationist and Critic. Guest of Honour, renowned folk performing artist of Oja Pali, Padma Shri Drona Bhuyan, Prabhat Haloi; and Padma Bhusan, Jatin Goswami, a legendary Sattriya classical dancer, whose esteemed presence added immense prestige to the occasion.
The program commenced with an invocation and the University Anthem, followed by an overview of the memorial lecture series by Dr. Rubi Goswami, Librarian of the HNDB Central Library. A soulful Borgeet performance added a cultural touch before the dignitaries were formally welcomed and participated in the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Vice-Chancellor N. C. Talukdar delivered the welcome address, highlighting the importance of such academic platforms in encouraging intellectual engagement and preserving literary heritage.
The keynote lecture by Dr. Ananda Bormudoi offered valuable insights into the emergence of modernism in Assamese literature and the significant contributions of Harinayaran Duttabaruah. The event also marked the inauguration of a special archive at the HNDB Central Library through a video presentation by Jatin Goswami. Additionally, a book titled “Harinayan: The Renaissance Man” was formally released during the program.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, followed by the State Anthem and a group photograph, reaffirming Assam down town University’s commitment to promoting scholarship, culture, and the rich legacy of Assamese literature.
