Date- 27th May 2025

Assam down town University hosted the 24th lecture of the AdtU Chancellor’s Lecture Series on “Astronomy’s New Frontiers”.

The event featured a thought-provoking session by Prof. Ajith Parameswaran, Dean – Program & Activities at the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Bangalore, Karnataka.

Delivering a lecture on “Astronomy’s New Frontiers,” Prof. Ajith explored the evolving dimensions of astronomical research. He elaborated on how, over the past century, the use of various wavelengths of electromagnetic waves has transformed our understanding of the universe. Highlighting recent advancements, he spoke about the emerging role of subatomic particles like neutrinos and cosmic rays in exploring cosmic phenomena. Prof. Ajith emphasized that the latest and perhaps most groundbreaking frontier in astronomy lies in the observation of gravitational waves, the subtle ripples in spacetime predicted by Albert Einstein.

The session was attended by faculty members, research scholars, students, and academic leaders including Directors and Deans from various faculties, contributing to a vibrant exchange of ideas and scientific curiosity.
