Assam down town University observed 134th National Librarians’ Day with a special program at the Harinarayan Dattabaruah (HNDB) Central Library, bringing together distinguished guests, faculty members and students to celebrate the enduring importance of books, libraries and the people who preserve them.

Editor Dainik Jugasankha and Eminent Bangla Poet, Bikash Sarkar, the keynote speaker and chief guest for the occasion, reflected on how technology has transformed the world of books while the essence and appeal of reading remain unchanged. 

The program was graced by Vice Chancellor Dr. Narayan Chandra Talukdar, who felicitated the keynote speaker, and Chancellor Dr. Narendra Nath Dutta, who addressed students on the continuing relevance of libraries in academic and personal growth. The program was also graced by Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Pranveer Singh PhD-IITK.

Afterwards, Librarian Dr. Ruby Goswami spoke about the life and contributions of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the father of library science in India. 

The celebration reaffirmed that while technology continues to reshape how knowledge is accessed, libraries remain timeless spaces that preserve knowledge, inspire curiosity and nurture a lasting culture of reading and learning.
